20100927: Ex14:21!Winds parted the Red Sea! It's true!

Exodus 14:21 "Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left"

Breaking news!! IT'S TRUE! What men thought it was impossible, today with the help of computer simulations, science has one again proven the bible to be true - at least for this Red Sea parting! Wow!
This is fantastic wind discovery!!! My bible study on wind this month is a blown-away! What a timely scientific discovery unveiled!
The more I seek you, the more I find you! Listen to this song as you read the recent discovery. Shalom!

Researchers link parting of the Red Sea to strong winds

Sunday, 26 September 2010 10:25

Moses might not have parted the Red Sea, but a strong east wind that blew through the night could have pushed the waters back in the way described in biblical writings and the Koran, US researchers reported on Tuesday.
Computer simulations, part of a larger study on how winds affect water, show wind could push water back at a point where a river bent to merge with a coastal lagoon, the team at the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the University of Colorado at Boulder said.
“The simulations match fairly closely with the account in Exodus,” Carl Drews of NCAR, who led the study, said in a statement.
“The parting of the waters can be understood through fluid dynamics. The wind moves the water in a way that’s in accordance with physical laws, creating a safe passage with water on two sides and then abruptly allowing the water to rush back in.”
Religious texts differ a little in the tale, but all describe Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt ahead of a pharaoh’s armies around 3 000 years ago. The Red Sea parts to let Moses and his followers pass safely, then crashes back onto the pursuers, drowning them.
Drews and colleagues are studying how Pacific Ocean typhoons can drive storm surges and other effects of strong and sustained winds on deep water.
His team pinpointed a possible site south of the Mediterranean Sea for the legendary crossing, and modelled different land formations that could have existed then and perhaps led to the accounts of the sea appearing to part.
The model requires a U-shaped formation of the Nile River and a shallow lagoon along the shoreline. It shows that a wind of 63 miles per hour, blowing steadily for 12 hours, could have pushed back waters 6 feet deep.
“This land bridge is 3-4 km (2 to 2.5 miles) long and 5 km (3 miles) wide, and it remains open for 4 hours,” they wrote in the Public Library of Science journal PLoS ONE.
“People have always been fascinated by this Exodus story, wondering if it comes from historical facts,” Drews said. “What this study shows is that the description of the waters parting indeed has a basis in physical laws.”—Reuters

20100926:Heb 1;7 ANGELS WINDS -Harnessing the wind

Heb1:7" He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire"

We heard of agriculture , hydroponics ,animal ,fish , prawn farms etc, but what about wind farms?

Have been pondering over the winds in the wake of the kite-flying. Actually wind farms are nothing new. The first was started in 1980s in the States I think. Man is always energy resource hungry. We tapped the rivers to make hydro-electricity. We dugged into the sea for the oil. We created solar panels to generate power. So harnessing the wind for the same energy is nothing new. But today, the meterological weather has changed. Some of the rivers of the world are dying up while others bursting its seams. Man has short term memory. The recent Deep Horizon Oil spill that happened just a few months back is no longer in our minds.

Renewable alternative energy! Well, few days ago, the world's largest offshore wind farm off England South Coast was officially opened. The Thanet Offshore Wind Farm consists of 100 wind turbines and will generate enough electricity for the equivalent of 200,000 UK households
Each wind turbine at the facility is up to 115 metres high. The wind farm covers an area of 35 square kilometres, around the size of 4,000 soccer fields. The cost of the project, funded in part by the UK Government, was approximately EUR 1 billion. The wind farm took just over two years to construct and will be in operation for at least 25 years.

So much money poured in just to harness the winds! Problem is that the winds blow wherever it pleases! (John 3:8) So whether the positive effects of this energy thing is yet to be really seen.

There is something about WINDS:-
  1. It is invisible - John 3:8 Jesus told Nicodemus in John 3 that "no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again" He is not referring to the physical birth but rather the invisible spirit birth - that awakening of our inner man - the Spirit man.
  2. It gives life - Ez 37 . Ezekiel prophesied and commanded the 4 winds to breathe into the slain and the dry bones came to life - a vast army
  3. It is angelic - Heb 1:7 God makes his angels winds. His messengers! The beauty of simply embracing yourself in the winds, letting them caress your face especially at the seaside!
  4. It is judgment -Rev7:1 4 angels, standing at 4 corners of the earth, holding back the 4 winds of the earth. Here in Rev 7, these 4 angels were given power to harm the land or the sea or the trees. Similar vision given to Daniel in Dan7;2. But they were asked to hold back judgement until another angel from the east with God's seal told them to delay until the seal on the foreheads of the servants of the Lord were put on. I believe this is the Glorious Return of our Lord Jesus as mentioned in Matt24:31and Mark11:27 "He will send his angels with a loud trumpet call and they will gather his elect from the 4 winds, from one end of the heavens to the other"
Reflections:
No one can see God. Just like wind. But we can see the effects. God is Love. A small act of kindness can create ripples beyond our imagination. God made angels winds. But He made us to the flames of fire. The energy that never dies so long as we focused on Him. He is the source of our life. Do we know Him? Do we have that seal on our foreheads?
Open your heart to Him - to be born again, to be rejuvenated. God assigns to each of His precious child a guardian angel - to watch and protect us and seal us from the judgement to come.

20100904: Ecclesiates: A Chasing after the Wind - a kite flying experience!

Bought a kite and tried flying it on 4/9/2010 for the first time at Marina Barrage (beginning to enjoy this place!)

Then on 10/9/2010, along with a couple of friends, we decided to go kite-flying again! But alas, this time, the wind was rather weak and so we could not really launch it.

It was then we decided to literary 'chase after the wind' by moving from the Marina to Labrador Park and then to the West Coast, then back to MARINA by night fall. As it turned out, there was no wind at all these places too. So we could not launch the kites! Kind of disappointing and anti-climax!

This futile effort brought to my mind of King Soloman's search of the meaning of life. Wisdom, pleasures, toil, achievements, advancement, riches, wealth, possessions, honour, appetites -all are but " a chasing of the wind"

Ecclesiates is only a 12-chapter book. But the verse "a chasing after the wind ' is repeated 8 times! V1:14, 17, 2:11, 17 & 26, 4:4, 16 & 6:9!

What did the kite-flying lesson teach me?

1. We are like kites who needs the wind of the Holy Spirit at all times
A kite can easily take off when the wind conditions are right effortlessly. John 3:8 "The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.” Apart from the Holy Spirit, we can do nothing indeed. With the aid of the Holy Spirit, life is never the same as we can soar like an eagle and not waddle on the ground like the chick.

2. It is a meaningless act to chase after the wind.
There will be times where we are meant to be grounded - no kite flying! Times to just simply relax and be laid back and enjoy the blue sky and clouds or the stars at night. There is no point for us to run in the open pulling the kite along for a lift off. It is a draining & tedious effort!
Conclusion of the matter? Eccl12:13 -14
"Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man. For God will bring every deed into judgement, including every hidden thing, whether it is good or evil"
