20110312: 2 Cor 5:1 Japan Tsunami/ Earthquake/ Nuclear

1 Cor 5:1 " Now we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal house in heaven, not built by human hands"

On 11th March 2011, the 9.0 earthquake struck NE Japan.
The above is just one of the many videos of destruction taken by many people on this fateful day.
Brought to mind the temporal nature of our earthly possessions as seen by above verse.
Many Japanese do not know the Lord Jesus Christ. At least 20,000 or more lives were lost in this disaster.
So what if our earthly dwellings are destroyed in matters of seconds through the earthquake or tsunami?
We thank God for the Hope of a future heavenly dwelling, a place prepared for us in advance to those who know Him and called upon Him for the forgiveness of sins.
We are exorted in Matt 6:19 - Not to store up treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. But rather to store up treasures in heaven. where it cannot be destroyed or stolen. For where our treasure is, there our heart will be also.

20110112: Faith and sight :Incredible story of the Ant, Contact lens & Prayer!

{Extract from internet, a true story?)
Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff. She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens. 'Great', she thought. 'Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry.'

She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But it just wasn't there.

She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she may find her contact lens.

When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the lens, but it was not to be found. Although she was calm now that she was at the top, she was saddened because she could not clearly see across the range of mountains. She thought of the bible verse 'The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth.'

She thought, 'Lord, You can see all these mountains. You know every stone and leaf, and You know exactly where my contact lens is. Please help me.'

Later, when they had hiked down the trail to the bottom of the cliff they met another party of climbers just starting up the face of the cliff. One of them shouted out, 'Hey, you guys! Anybody lose a contact lens?'

Well, that would be startling enough, but you know why the climber saw it? An ant was moving slowly across a twig on the face of the rock, carrying it!

The story doesn't end there. Brenda's father is a cartoonist. When she told him the incredible story of the ant, the prayer, and the contact lens, he drew a cartoon of an ant lugging that contact lens with the caption, 'Lord, I don't know why You want me to carry this thing. I can't eat it, and it's awfully heavy. But if this is what You want me to do, I'll carry it for You.'

20110311-Hebrews 11" By Faith"

Last month on 22/2/11, I blog about 2 Cor 5:7 " we walk (live) by faith and not by sight".
Last nite at a celebration dinner with a group of ex-Kings mates, I was given this little footprint wall plaque with the same words by Aunty Mavis! What a joy!

Heb11:1-2 " Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain OF WHAT WE DO NOT SEE. This is what the ancients were commended for"

If we can physically see, then FAITH cannot really take its full effect.
If we cannot see, then HOPE+FAITH gives us the "spiritual" sight to see what we cannot see.

Remember Elijah and the King of Aram who was at war with Israel? The servant of the man of God, Elijah, saw themselves besieged by the army of horses and chariots, Yet Elijah cooly answered "Don't be afraid..those who are with us are more than those who are with them"

How did Elijah know? Why was he full of conviction of such deep strong faith?

I believe Elijah was one the ANCIENTS that the Lord commended for in this faith walk.

When he prayed to the Lord to open the eyes of hi servant so that he might see. The lord did just that. And the servant managed to see the hills full of horses and chariots - more , much more then those physically surrounded the city!

When Elijah prayed to strike the enemy with blindness, the Lord did likewise.

Reflections
Sometimes we are like that "servant of the man of God" who always doubt and question God and cry out to Him as in V15 "Oh, my lord, what shall we do?"
Guess we have to really learn to be like the master.
To be constantly engaged in having a supernatural sight to see beyond what we cannot physically see.
To walk or live by faith and not by sight.
* Not to have long-sightedness such that we miss out the people who are near and dear to us.
* Not to have short-sightedness such that we miss out the macro picture of what on earth we are doing here ie to be heavenly minded and not earthly bound.
* Not to have astigmatism of double vision such that we lost our single focus on Yahweh - serving 2 Gods instead.
Lord, may you grant us perfect eyesight : 6/6 Vision!

20110307-Matt 6:30 O you of little faith/ Gratitude

Matt 6:30 "if that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?"

Part 2 of my faith is tested again following my KL experience last month.
Well, I am taking this morning dose of a cup of gratitude.

Confessions from one who just recovered from a fever with 40degree celcius of anxiety!
Indeed I am thankful that yesterday the Lord answered a little prayer of ours. After much appeal to the Ministry of Manpower over the rejection of our one and only Chinese staff whose work permit is due to expire on 13/3 (yah..just a few days to come), some reprieve was obtained. The Head of MOM (WP) called yesterday afternoon and allowed some extension for us. It was really a sigh of relieve to this rather anxious heart of mine. (Matt 6 do not worry , worry being opposite of faith ...yes easier said than to practice at times ?)

I had resigned to the fact of Que sera sera whatever will be will be. Anxious heart of mine tried to call in before the due date several times to find out the outcome without much success due to recorded voicemails. In the end, it was not to fight the flow but to allow the process to take its own course.

Reflections
I always admire the grass in the change of the seasons - from spring when they are leafy green to scrawny brown and bare during the winter chill. In the wild areas, they don't seem to required to be lawn mowered! The God of Creation who created the seasons of life does just that. It is a natural process. That's how the Lord clothes them.

"O you of little faith?!"
Heb 11:1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.
After every winter, the ground is bare with ice. But the hope is always there. We cannot see the seeds of the grass. But they are hidden below the wintry ice. Faith is like that. That's how the Lord leads us on.

Yes, God's purpose for us is always perfect. He is the God of the Already.
He wants to show us things that we can only understand by living what we are living and being in the place we are now. Spring will spring forth surely after the winter. And somehow, the grass will sprout once again.
