20130830: :Rev 22:13 "Alpha Omega" Elysium + Immolation

Rev 22:13" I am the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last"

This month I learnt 2 new words . The first was Elysium and the other Immolation.  Education is life long. May be three..."Twerk" by Miley Cyrus!

ELYSIUM?

Elysium is a 2013 American science fiction action-thriller film written, co-produced and directed by Neill Blomkamp and starring Matt Damon and Jodie Foster. It was released on August 9, 2013
The film takes place on both a ravaged Earth and a luxurious space habitat called Elysium. It explores political and sociological themes such as immigration, health care and class issues

In 2154, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a luxurious space station called Elysium, and the poor, who live on an overpopulated, devastated Earth. While residents on Earth are policed by ruthless androids, Elysian citizens live in comfort and safety, surrounded by robotic servants. They regularly use man-sized medical devices in their homes that keep them free from disease (so called Med-Pods).
Noun1.Elysium - a place or condition of ideal happiness

Elysium - (Greek mythology) the abode of the blessed after death
Heaven - the abode of God and the angels
Greek mythology - the mythology of the ancient Greeks

A very interesting movie indeed.  Reminded me of last book of Revelation. Is there such a place called Elysium? Why not?  Will there be anymore sorrow, pain or disease? Well unlike the Med-Pods in this movie, our new heavenly home will have leaves of the trees for the healing of the nations (wonder how it works? Pluck the leaves and eat?) And there will be no more curse. Rev 21 -22.

Will there remain a caste system like upper or lower class etc? Well, we know that those whose names in the Book of life will be there. May be not such a thing of caste- but God will reward to every man according to his work. Rev 22:12.

Guess to have a place like that in Elysium - there is no need to save and buy that expensive space ticket to make a trip there. The condition is in v14" Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life , and may enter in through the gates into the city"
V11: He that is unjust, let him be unjust STILL;
he which is filthy, let him be filthy STILL;
and he that is righteous, let him be righteous STILL;

and he that is holy, let him be holy STILL"

What a steal STILL!
Yes, perhaps let the people continue to decide for themselves which group they want to be in - unjust, filthy or righteous , holy?
V15 Wanna be dogs, scorcerers, whoremongers, murderers, idolaters...?

Something sad that had recently took place in little red dot this month- 23/8/2013. . I think it is one of the first kind here.

IMMOLATION
Self-immolation refers to setting oneself on fire, often as a form of protest or for the purposes of martyrdom.
http://singaporenewsalternative.blogspot.sg/2013/08/woman-commits-immolation-at-singapore.html

What a shocking news. In my mind, I asked "OH why???" Why did she do it?" What a terrible  way to die. What the hell that drove this woman to commit such an act? She was definitely not an Elysium citizen.  Sigh...something drove her to despair. And it looks like this is one of the first kind in this nation? Sad

TWERKing!!!
And oh mind! My last new word that I learnt - "TWERKING"?
2 days back, Miley Cyrus - the 20 year old singer, shed her goody outfit to that of a raunchy, sexy one at the 2013 MTV awards.  She beat Lady Gaga for her mouth gasping performance. She created a new buzz word that found its way into the dictionary - Twerk twerk twerk.
Too R-A rated. LOL....

Reflection
Oh what a world we live in now! No more twerk, no more immolation...Elysium here I come! May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with us all! V21

20130823 :Rev10:1 " Physical Church vs Presence Christ"

(Photo taken 23/8/2013 - 5:16am @ living room -Home)

Rev 10:1"And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud; and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun and his feet as pillars of fire"

I was awoken up at about 5am early this morning. Decided to make a kopi and roti -BREAKing a FAST...nah - breakfast early :) and decided to continue reading this book recently bought "The Teflon Rhino" by Bill Wilson - founder of Metro Ministries.

As I was about to start reading, suddenly I caught 4 little rainbows just opposite of me - appeared in my TV screen. LOL.  I was captivated - amused.  Decided to toy with the angle of the light from the lamp.  You can only see the rainbow when the light is directly shining 180 degrees.

Well, the kid in me toyed further with the flash light from John's i-phone and so I caught some more "rainbows"! Varying the distance from the screen created different brightness and shades of the bows!

The 2 rainbows verses in Rev came to my mind. Besides Rev 10:1 above, the other rainbow was found in Rev 4:3: "And he that sat was to look upon like a jasper and a sardine stone; and there was a rainbow round about the throne, in sight like an emerald"

Do you know that there are 2 more rainbow verses found in the bible? They are found in book of Genesis. So in total 4 : - 2 in the beginning (reminding us of the Lord's covenant as a sign in the rainbow) and 2 at the end in Revelation (reminding us of the glory around Him and His throne)

Chapter 12 of this book "STAY IN THE HOUSE"
I was at this chapter when I caught the glimpse of this 4 rainbow in front of me.
Can you imagine that for more than 22 years staying in this home, I had not noticed this phenomenal ?

But it has always been there - just that I was not even aware that rainbows can be created from the lamp in this manner via the TV screen. LOL! A sudden appreciation of Rev 10:1 dawned upon me.  That bright light to me was like His face.  No one could see His face even as Moses had begged in the mountains asking the Lord to show him His glory.

My tiny brainhead had always imagined the rainbow in semi arc. Never had I imagine that it  could appear in 4 spokes like this.  The accumulation or sum of spokes can easily make up the full circle of the rainbow around the bright spark.  What a revelation! After 22 years in this house.

Reflection
Perhaps the brief synopsis of this particular chapter sums it all so well.  My early 2 blogs on physical church buildings.

Extract: (P163-164)
"Father's house - the source of inspiration for all the biblical rights and for men and women throughout the history of christianity.  David often spoke of the love he had for the house of God.

Lord , I have loved the habitation of thy house, and the place where thine honour dwelleth. - Psalm 26:8

One thing have I desired of the LORD , that I will seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the LORD, and to enquire in his temple. - Psalm 27:4

The house that David so passionately speaks of is not to be confused with heaven or with church.  It is not a place reserved for those after they die and it is not a building that we go to on Sundays.  The depth of David's love was reserved for the house that represented the Father's Presence.  In other words when you are under the umbrella of His house, you are under the protection of His presence.  There is no greater place in the world.  It is not a physical place located on some holy ground.  It is not a sacred place like Lourdes, or Fatima or even Jerusalem.  It is not a place that you go to visit.

The house that David spoke of was the house of His presence - the presence sought by all of God's great leaders.

It is not a place that we visit.  David talked about the dwelling in the presence, taking up residence in the place where God's presence is manifest.  It is not simply attending church on Sunday, enjoying worship and hearing a good sermon.  That is not what David was talking about.

He was talking about staying in the house.

He was implying that there is a place where were called to live.  It is our place of residence, not our vacation home.  It is our life, not our recreation.  It is our pursuit, not our hobby.  It is not a 9 to 5 job.  It is the totality of our life.

It's a lifestyle, my friend.  You dwell there.  You live there.  You desire nothing else, because you know that the presence changes you, motivates you , enlivens you, protects you, encourages you inspires you.  My life is better when I'm in the house. I deal with things better when I'm in the house.

In His house , He prepares a table for us in the presence of our enemies.  He is the Master Chef, and His meals are like nothing you have ever had before - enchanting appetizers, delectable cuisine, and delightful desserts. While you are feasting at the table of the Lord, your enemies look on you in disgust"

My thots:
A very interesting thot prokoking book. Recommended reading. Only 13 chapters and I have come to this Chapter 12 at the perfect date and time to have my lights turned on to a fresh revelation of that verse in Revelation 10:1...after 22 years living in the physical house only to realise the rainbow was present all this while even without my knowledge.
A debate between my Father and I regarding the issue of churchianity of today .  And the Lord spoke in a still quiet voice this morning in the living room as I behold the beauty of that rainbow in front of me.

Which "PC" do I want? Not the Apple Mac or the IBM laptop PCs.  Get wired to the main server - Christ.  There is no need of any cable.  Not simply going to a physical church premise to top up . His connection is forever wireless. His broadband speed is a wide and fast as it can be - only condition is that we tap in. His download is limitless and free.  It is really up to us.  Seek His presence. Christ's Presence. STAY IN THE HOUSE:)

How to get connected?
Only a one time application! Jesus has already paid that start up connection fee for us.  With His blood shed on the cross for our sins.  Like the provider SingTel - Acknowledge that we had SIN. Then Sing His praises and Tell of His wonderful good news to others who had not got connected. Or perhaps you prefer StarHub. That is fine too. Remember the Star of David, the little baby born 2000 + ago.  Stay connected to His Hub of life - He who died years ago and rose again from the dead after 3 days. Jesus is alive! And He has sent His Holy Spirit to us all - 24/7, 365 days.....

20130822- Rev8:10-11: 3rd Trumpet? Fukushima=Wormwood=Chernoby?? 1/3 ?

Rev 8:10-11
"The third angel blew his trumpet, and a great star fell from heaven, blazing like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water. The name of the star is Wormwood. A third of the waters became wormwood, and many died from the water, because it was made bitter."

Recently, we have been receiving news of the latest TEPCO of Japan increasing their level of danger zone for their Fukushima leaks from level 1 to 3 just two days ago. 7 being the highest.

http://www.collapsingintoconsciousness.com/at-the-very-least-your-days-of-eating-pacific-ocean-fish-are-over/
Reflections
I couldn't help to find the above simulation of the dispersal of the radiation material Cs-137 in the youtube uncanny to the Rev8.

  • Chernobyl happened many years ago. In Russian - it is called Wormwood . In Rev , it is known as a great star. Actually, Wormwood is also a plant.
  • This great star fell on our waters and it became wormwood - made the water bitter and many will die from the water..:(
  • Today, the aftermath of the tsunami in 2011 that caused this Fukushima reactor leak of today, 2013 - is creating ripples over the pacific ocean. The report citing that 1/3 of the earth waters will be affected.
Preparation for the Vial Judgements
Rev15 : Talks about the 7 angels - 7 last plagues for in them is filled up the wrath of God. In v5, John saw the temple of the tabernacle of the testimony in heaven opened. The 7 angels came out of the temple, having the 7 plagues, One of the 4 beasts gave unto the 7 angels 7 golden vials full of the wrath of God, who lives forever and ever. And the temple was filled with smoke from the glory of God, and from his power and no man was able to enter into the temple TILL the 7 Plagues of the 7 angels were fulfilled.
  • Rev16:3 : 2nd angel poured out his vial UPON THE SEA, and it became the blood of a dead man and every living soul died in the sea.
Just like the Donkey who pestered Shrek in his journey to save the princess "Are we there yet?" "Are we there yet?" "Are we there yet?"

So now the Fukushima post events have unfolded 2 years on.  Are we now living in the 3rd trumpet and unleashing of the Vial #2?

Announcements of the 3 Angels
Rev14:6-13
Perhaps the news that we are seeing today- PRESENT- seem bleak - doom and gloom.
But let us cling on to the hope and hang in to what the angels announced earlier before the bad news in the earlier chapter!

Being Prepared:-
  1. Fear God and give glory to him; for the hour of his judgement is come; and worship him that made heaven , and the earth and the sea and the fountains of waters. V7
  2. Do not worship the beast and his image or receive his mark in our forehead or our hand. V9
  3. Keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus . V12
V13 "Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth; Yea, says the Spirit, that they may rest from

their labours and their works do follow them"

Let us remember the Lord's first miracle at Canaan at the wedding - He turned water into wine....never mind the Cs-137 radiation water...it is ok....a sign that the groom is coming again back for us..His bride...very soon..akang datang!

20130808 : "Physical Church Buildings #2" House of Prayer vs Holy Mountain?

Song Chorus " So here in the night , we long for the day,
 Bright and Morningstar arise
A new day dawning and the King will come
He will take His place, He will dwell among us
When He comes in the clouds, the redeemed will cry out
Singing "Worthy is the Lamb"

Little red dot is a very unique place on this planet earth.
It was only recently that I started to dwell on the issue of physical homes and of course church physical buildings now that the church I am in is in the critical stage of such a decision.

Our little 700 sq km land boasts of houses and apartments that easily cost hundredths of thousands to millions. It is kind of like the sectional demarcation of where you stay in the movie "In Time" The ghettos heartlanders vs the elite rich and famous .  Life is measured in hours and one is paid in crediting hours to your life. And life literally ticked away in seconds. Once time is up and expired - you just drop dead. Others had too much time on their hands and found life meaningless. Interesting movie to watch.  A small granny HDB flat whom my collleague bought last year cost S$170k whereas 5 years back it was only $90k for the 45sqm dwelling. Now singles are eligible to buy for less than $70k for a 35sqm one with 99 years lease compared to granny's of only 30 years. Cos we dun expect grannies in their 60s, 70s or 80s to last till above a century..right?  and somewhere south of red dot, homes in the seafront can easily cost above $30mio!

A late friend who passed on in 1990s once bought a leasehold condo with 99 year lease. But shortly after that she contracted cancer. Being a single mum with her daughter then was only about 9 or 10, she decided to prepare for her death . She bought herself a little ash niche and she laughed citing that it was a real mockery as it has a lease of 999 years - much more than her condo! This is really  between the living and the dead. She was certainly a rare breed of woman as she was treated with shock by the Singapore Casket attendee when she walked in to select her own coffin!

So like another friend now in her 80s who shared her real life story joke - she once stayed in a big landed house, downsize to a 5 room HDB, then further to a granny flat few years back.  And she commented that the physical house she stayed in grew from big to small and all to soon - just a 6x1 feet box! Oh what a humorous old lady! But how true as we leave this earth in this manner. (Except for the Muslims - they don't even need a box I think - just cloth to wrap and bury before sundown..not sure...)

Well, here in this red dot, majority of land is not freehold or 999 leasehold. In fact many are 99 years or less for residential and for commercial or industrial  - usually 60 or 30 years lease. Perhaps we have no choice as land utilisation is a major concern . More so we are welcoming 6.9mio human beans to stay here in the next 30 years. So likewise, the church premises that we are now in has no more than 49 years lease.  Not really a surprise.

Singaporeans are quite a millionaire.  With 70% of our population staying in HDB and with flats now hitting $500k and above even for a 4-5 roomer, we are already half millionaires.  Our ministers here are paid in millions in salary - whereas the head of states in many other bigger nations are paid less than USD300k pa. We are a unique nation - small but quite "mighty in the monetary".  So perhaps looking at a building project that cost above S$4x,xxx,xxx/- is now seemingly relatively small . Peanuts?  We have 2 mega churches now here in this red dot that boast of big buildings (cost in $xxx,xxx,xxx/-) - with the concept of dual purpose utility - for commercial use as entertainment venues for events or gigs. (afterall, the premises are usually blocked booked for mainly their weekend worship services and un-utilised on 5 other week nights mainly)

This subject made me think and reflect on what church is or what church is not. To build a physical church building or not to house the church members or guests is perhaps a separate issue here. As I am not against building church buildings per se.

But my thoughts are streaming.  We cannot help this , can we? Chinese people , Taoists and buddhists have their temples (only latter has the josssticks but not the former, budhists require literal burnt offerings in all kinds of paper form of credit cards , cars, clothes, hell notes and food offerings etc - first offered and then brought home for self consumption....).  Muslims have their mosques.  (But all the muslims can hop in to any mosque at their nearest location on the fridays to kneel and face Mecca to pray) The Tamils have their uniquely colourful temples with colourful painted gods - something one cannot miss if one walk past) So Christians? Buildings with a cross on their roofs. Kind of interesting that we do not use the term temples like the days of old - perhaps of the connotation or association with the chinese traditional temple meanings here.  When in fact, the bible uses the term temples, house , tabernacle etc more often.

Some thots
For me this is a great paradigm shift. What or Who are we worshipping?   Where are we to 'worship" When are we suppose to "worship" How are we to 'worship" or "What do we bring as offering of worship" ? Once again - Who we are? Why are we born? Where are we going after we die? And WHO GOD is.

Interesting scriptures - last days...

In the last days the mountain of the LORD's temple will be established as the highest of the mountains; it will be exalted above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.
Isaiah 2:3
Many peoples will come and say, "Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the temple of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths." The law will go out from Zion, the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

His House of Prayer?
In 3 gospels, Matt . Mark and luke mentioned about His House being a house of prayer" Luke 19:46
"It is written," he said to them, "'My house will be a house of prayer'; but you have made it 'a den of robbers.'"

Many current church premises held "Combined corporate" prayer meetings only once a month. The rest are among small cell groups etc. And when that corporate prayer is slotted in for that week, the joke is that many cell groups decided to take a "breather or break' from their weekly fellowship. Cos for some the cell gathering has become a drag -  the precious day of break is so welcomed. What can be so joyful to be in the house of prayer in its place?  We have recently been blessed with a church in city centre that opens its doors 24/7 from 6:30 - 8:30 am.  The effort put in by united local churches 'rostered" to host / anchor daily.  It is a good initiative indeed to unite different denominations of churches and para-org to this.  The Korean church is famous for this morning prayers attended by the thousands. But can red dot do this? The average attendance is xx people. Personally I think it is tough cos personal relationship with God for many is already shallow, let alone the corporate gathering for such a time like this in a morning too. . So my next question is physical "House of Prayer for all nations" - is it possible? The answer lies in the questions earlier in the paradigm shift.

My personal view is that I don't believe God is even looking for that physical centre of premises where people gather to pray.  He is ushering in a house of living stones where He is the chief cornerstone.  I have been attending the morning prayer since last Aug2012 since it first started.  Personal confessions of a spirit that is willing but flesh being weak as much as I wanted to make it a personal goal of even once a week affair failed miserably. Let alone the 'holy thot' of attempting at least twice and increase intensity to perhaps thrice a week! LOL. Thinking that because Jesus got up in the morning to pray - so must I . Being a nite owl which I am wired as such - this is most uphill task for me. Perhaps as I aged and need less sleep,  I will become more like Jesus and able to get up earlier! Ha Ha.   Nevertheless , this morning gathering place is a push factor for me and I must say that it has been very uplifting time on days I do make it.  It is like going for a marathon - sometimes we need a pacer beside us - just to nudge us along else it is so easy to slow down and then walk off the road marked ahead of us in this journey.

Our bodies host the temple of the living God once we invited Him into our hearts. Like the Samaritan woman at the well, we worship Him in Spirit and in truth. Prayers that I used to be discipled in during my younger days took a different perspective and paradigm shift now. I can pray with eyes open or shut. I can pray with words or without. I can choose to pray in tongues or in my own choice of English, Mandarin or Teochew (which I find it so funny to do so - I have lost my teochew ah nia roots)  I can pray alone or in groups. I can converse with the Lord anytime - anywhere - anyhow.1 Timothy 2:8 I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, …Because He knows me and I know Him.

His Holy Mountain?
Going back to Is 2.
Where is the Lord's temple??? Where is Mount Zion?
I found this extract which had a good summary with lots of golden nuggets to chew on. Those in red struck me a lot..
Treasury of Scripture Knowledge
Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted on my altar; for my house shall be called an house of prayer for all people.
then will
their burnt
for mine

Final Reflections
At the end of the day, to build or not to build a physical church is not all that matters. If God wants a physical place for His children to gather in fellowship and worship once a week - why not? I am not against building of physical structures per se. But the sharing of a correct view point of who He is to my pre-believing loved ones and friends whom I know had a pre-concieved idea of what "church" is as the physical premises.  Just as temples to Buddhist, mosques to Muslims etc. Going to the building with beautiful stained glass or a cross on top of the roof does not make one a Christian or believer.  It is all about repentance and humility/ contriteness in spirit  that we need a Saviour who can save us from fiery eternal Hell. It is about knowing Him personally. And acknowledging that He holds the stopwatch on our hands. We cannot press it - He does and knows when we are to expire. In His Time.

We are called the "Church of Our Saviour" The Saviour's Church. What exactly do we mean?
The fact that the building authorities required the meeting of plot ratio or cars humans ratio is something that we have no choice by to comply. But having said that to move ahead with total demolition at S$4x,xxx,xxx/- cost perhaps require further evaluation? And at the rate of COEs for cars hitting $70k yesterday - we may find less people driving soon when their 10 year old cars 'expire". LOL. When we drink - dont' drive..when we build , don't drive too!. ha Ha.

Perhaps God has impressed upon us that while when we see the sign of the temple being rebuild as a note to His second coming, the fact to rebuild our own little local place of 'worship' is nothing compared to the coming rebuilding of the Temple in Jerusalem.  We look at the big picture of greater things to come. Yes the New Jerusalem. The Heavenly city above. The topic of rapture often captivates me. But it is not important as to when or which theory one subscribes to - be it pre/ mid or post tribulation. If wrath is to come, can we escape? Can we remain faithful to the end?  The Day of the Lord comes as a thief. We shall remain watchful and prayerful. I take comfort that not one of our hair shall perish in Luke 21 when disciples asked about the sign of times.  Kind of affirmation in Isaiah 11 - as we remained as the called out ones standing firm till the end.

They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

May we continue to seek Him continually.  Looking at the unseen rather than the seen. The spiritual side of things rather than the physical. God is Spirit.  Until we are there above , for now, we cannot see Him face to face. How would Jesus and His Father look? That is most interesting to know when the time comes.

Isaiah 66 The last chapter brings a climax. It is about the redeemed ones.
Is66:1 "The heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool: where is the house that you build unto me? and where is the place of my rest?"
V2 "..but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit and trembles at my word"
V20" And they shall bring all your brethren for an offering unto the LORD our of all nations upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters and upon mules and upon swift beasts, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says the LoRD , as children of Israel bring an offering in a clean vessel into the house of the LORD"
V21 " And I will take of them for priests and for Levites"
V22 "For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make , shall remain before me, says the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain."
V23 "And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another and from one sabbath to another , shall all flesh come to worship before me"

"God has in these last days called out a remnant of Christians to leave “Churchianity” and take a journey through the wilderness. What is He bringing them to? Not to a temple made with hands, but to a house of living stones. Not to the Jerusalem that is below, but to the Jerusalem that is above: the New Jerusalem, the Heavenly City, whose builder and maker is God. It is a “Church in the Wilderness” – not a building, but a body of people in transition between the religious system and the spiritual fulfillment of God’s original intention for theEkklesia." - Chip Brogden

20130805: "Physical Church Buildings #1 " The Church in Wilderness

[Remembering first exodus - where God led the Isaelites out of Egypt in a pillar of cloud by night in Exo13. The clouds here are seen at just past midnite in early morning - awesome horizontal strip across the skyline.  Now can you imagine rotating it either clockwise or anticlockwise and view it vertically? Ha Ha]

We are in the midst of a great deliberation : To tear down old church premises and rebuild a brand new one at an increased cost of S$xxx? An interesting dilemma that made me review what the 'church' ought to be.  We gather in small groups but we gather in big groups in a physical church building for about 2 hours once a week now - usually on a sat or sunday.  This is an interesting article.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF CALLED OUT PEOPLES

by Chip Brogden
Throughout history, God has continually called out a people, a remnant that will represent His heart and mind in the midst of universal deception and decay. To answer this calling, God’s people have always been asked to leave where they are and travel through an unfamiliar, lonely place – a wilderness – in order to reach the place He has prepared for them.
This happened twice in the history of Israel, and it has happened twice in the history of Christianity. By looking back on how God has called His people out in times past, we can better see and appreciate the significance of the final exodus that is taking place at this time.
Israel’s First Exodus: God Called the Hebrews Out of Egypt
We have already seen that Moses established a “church in the wilderness” by leading the Hebrews out of Egypt and into the Promised Land by way of the desert of Sinai. This exodus is recorded in our Bibles, not just for its historical significance, but for us to learn by: “With most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness. Now these things took place as examples for us…” (1 Cor. 10:5,6). We see how they were tested in the wilderness, and how they failed many of the tests, and failed to enter into the Promised Land because of doubt and fear. We also see how many of them were tempted to go back to Egypt.
All these things are recorded so that we will recognize this tendency in ourselves today and not make the same mistakes they made. So this first exodus establishes the spiritual principle of God calling His people out and is the key that unlocks our understanding of how God goes about the difficult work of calling and setting apart a chosen people for Himself.
Israel’s Second Exodus: God Called the Jews Out of Babylon
Once the nation of Israel was established in the Promised Land, they began a slow and steady moral and spiritual decline, occasionally punctuated with godly kings and periods of repentance and revival. But eventually the wickedness of the nation called for judgment, and this judgment came in the form of Nebuchadnezzar, who conquered Jerusalem, destroyed the Temple, killed most of the people, and took the remainder as captives with him to Babylon, where they lived in exile for 70 years.
After that, the Lord once again called them to come out – to leave Babylon, journey back through the wilderness to Jerusalem, and rebuild their Temple and their city. The significant thing about this is that most of the Jews stayed in Babylon. Out of an estimated Jewish population of greater than one million people living in exile, only 42,000 returned. The vast majority preferred the comfortable bondage of Babylon to the uncomfortable, uncertain future of rebuilding their nation. The significance of this is extraordinary. Just as the young nation wanted to return to Egypt, the nation in exile wanted to remain in Babylon.
So we have two exoduses in the history of Israel that provide us with spiritual discernment into what follows after. Let us now turn to the two exoduses in the history of the Ekklesia.
Our First Exodus: God Called the Christians Out of Judaism
A remnant of Jews did return from Babylon. They rebuilt the Temple and inhabited Jerusalem once again. Having paid the terrible price of their idolatry, they resolved to never disobey God again. But in their zeal they went to the opposite extreme of fanaticism. What eventually developed was a religious system and a hypocritical priesthood obsessed with outward appearances and obedience to the letter of the Law while overlooking mercy, grace, righteousness, faith, and love.
Into this atmosphere our Savior was sent, just as Moses was sent to Pharaoh with a mandate to bring God’s people out of bondage and into the Promised Land. And, just as Pharaoh resisted Moses, so the religious leaders resisted Jesus. Undaunted, Jesus promised another “church in the wilderness” that would stand forever, and charged His disciples to take this message to “all nations” and “to the uttermost parts of the earth.”
Even with this clear direction, it would take many years for the truth to sink in: faith in Christ was not compatible with Judaism. Peter struggled with preaching Christ to the Gentiles and was rebuked publicly by Paul. James, based in Jerusalem, tried in vain to make Christianity fit in better with Jewish ideology. But once the Gospel was preached to the Gentiles, it marked the beginning of something new. The Way, as it was then called, was no longer a mere sect within Judaism. The Gentiles heard the message, and thanks to Paul, understood that faith in Christ has nothing to do with obeying the Law of Moses.
Now followers of Jesus were forced to make a decision. Were they going to “come out of Judaism” and be “a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a set-apart people” distinct from Judaism, or, would they cling to their Jewish traditions and the teachings of their elders, all of whom rejected Jesus as the Messiah?
The letter to the Hebrews was written to Jews struggling with that very dilemma. After demonstrating conclusively that you cannot enjoy the benefits of the New Covenant while clinging to elements of the Old Covenant, the author concludes:
“We have an altar from which those who serve the tent have no right to eat. For the bodies of those animals, whose blood is brought into the holy places by the high priest as a sacrifice for sin, are burned outside the camp. So Jesus also suffered outside the gate in order to sanctify the people through His own blood. Therefore let us go to Him outside the camp and bear the reproach He endured” (Heb. 13:10-13).
Once again, when offered a choice between comfortable bondage and uncomfortable freedom, we find many chose to stay “within the camp.” They were known as the Ebionites – Jews who accepted Jesus as the Messiah but insisted on obedience to the Jewish laws and customs in order to be saved. Of course, they also rejected Paul as a genuine apostle. This group flourished within Jerusalem until it was destroyed by Titus in A.D. 70., after which they established themselves in Pella. They persisted for some time, but by the fourth or fifth century they were no longer in existence.
Our Second Exodus: God Calls the Remnant Out of “Churchianity”
By that time, the followers of Jesus were recognized as something springing out of, but totally different from, Judaism. For about 300 years the followers of Jesus practiced their faith in simplicity and in obedience to the teaching of the Holy Spirit, even when enduring fierce persecution from the Romans and the Jews. Eventually, Rome accepted Christianity and made it their state religion. Masses of “converts” poured in. Pagan temples were converted into “Christian” churches, and more church buildings were constructed. An elaborate hierarchy of bishops was established and a religious system was organized that soon exceeded the Jewish religion, both in numbers of adherents and in material wealth. Christianity became institutionalized into three main sects: Catholicism, Orthodox, and Protestantism. Out of Protestantism, Christianity was further splintered into thousands of denominations.
So we see that Israel’s history has repeated itself in the history of Christianity. Just as God called the Hebrews out of Egypt to form a new nation, so God called the early Christians out of Judaism to form a “new nation” of kings and priests. When Israel rebelled against God and committed idolatry, they were led away to Babylon for judgment. In like manner, when Christendom rebelled against God and created an idolatrous system of worship “in Jesus’ name,” they were also brought to judgment; the chief difference being that God did not send them away – He simply gave them over to their own devices, and they were quite content to proceed under the assumption that God was endorsing and blessing the works of their hands.
This brings us to the present time. Just as God called out a remnant of Jews to leave Babylon and journey to Jerusalem to rebuild the Temple, God has in these last days called out a remnant of Christians to leave “Churchianity” and take a journey through the wilderness. What is He bringing them to? Not to a temple made with hands, but to a house of living stones. Not to the Jerusalem that is below, but to the Jerusalem that is above: the New Jerusalem, the Heavenly City, whose builder and maker is God. It is a “Church in the Wilderness” – not a building, but a body of people in transition between the religious system and the spiritual fulfillment of God’s original intention for theEkklesia.
Meditation thoughts: The Ekklesia – the body of Christ – are living stones whom God intends to use to build the New Jerusalem, the Heavenly City, as prophesied in Rev 21. Do you intend to be a part of this Ekklesia? You have a choice to whom you want to follow – none other than Jesus Christ! Sacrifices have to be made.

20130805 : Nah...Um....

(Photo: Clouds taken on 28/7/2013 @ about 12 midnite over Little Red Dot)

Awesome clouds seen. After a season of haze and cloudless skies in June this year, these clouds were such an inviting sight.  With a heart of gratitude in thanksgiving for His hand upon this red dot for chasing away the 401 PSI haze.....

Read this book Nahum - which means comfort or consolation in Hebrew.
Nahum prophesied the downfall of the great city of Ninevah, capital of Assyria ,which Jonah was sent to preach to much to his reluctance about a hundred years later. In Jonah, we recalled the city which came to repentance around 760BC and God withheld judgement. It was a mighty city in her time then.

But what happened to this city? As written in Nahum 1:8 " But with an overrunning flood he will make an utter end of the place thereof and darkness shall pursue his enemies" So it happened as Nahum had predicted. Tigris River overflowed in around 612BC

Can the same happen here in red dot? Many people would say "Nah Nah Nah..."
But some may say "Um Um "

Nahum was a minor prophet in the books of the bible. But minor prophetic books should be treated as much importance as the major prophetic books.

When the earthquakes happened to our neighbours , Indonesia, I felt the tremors once even on the ground floor in city centre. We were not spared when the haze hit us just two months ago. Acts of God are something unimaginable  - we call them Mother Nature or natural disasters.

Our sin city is in some ways rather similar to Ninevah. Full of arrogance and corruption, contempt for God , lack of the reverend fear of who God is. Nahum 3:1 " Woe to the bloody city! It is all full of lies and robbery!.." Weak leadership ..sigh..Nahum 3:16-19" You have increased the number of merchants till they are more that the stars of the sky, but like LOCUSTs, they strip the land then fly away. Your guards are like locusts, your officials like swarms of locusts that settle in the walls on a cold day - but when the sun appears they fly away and no one knows where. ...Oh kind of Assyria , your shepherds slumber, your nobles lie down to rest...Your people are scattered on the mountains with no one to gather them"...v 19 :Everyone who hears the news about you clap his hands at your fall, for who has not felt your endless cruelty?"  Does it not resemble a sin city here? Politicians who fleeced the weak with self interest , the loss of national identity, the elite who came to this land with easy citizenship and pushing out the very own native of this land. Those with money can migrate and flee, but how about those who cannot?

Nahum first chapter 1 -8 - tells us that  God is jealous , revenges, furious, reserves wrath for his enemies. Who can stand before His indignation? who can abide in the fierceness of his anger? His fury is poured out like fire and the rocks are thrown by him!

But on the other hand, in the same chapter, we see a different character of Yahweh: He is slow to anger, great in power- He can rebuke the sea and make it dry! The mountains quake at him and the hills melt and the earth burned at his presence!

Reflection
In the midst of the things going around -the ungodliness we see uprising, the rise of the LGBTs, the high rate of corruption unfolding in public office, the vices of all kinds and increase in the suicide rates  - I take heart in v 7 "The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; he knows them that trust in Him"

The destruction of Ninevah was decreed. It was expected. The destruction of the city was long deserved after they repented after Jonah preached and they went back to old ways.

Pray that the LORD will be merciful to us, Sin city. May we be known to Him as we continue to put our trust in HIm and HIm alone. Take not your cloud covering away from us O Lord.
