What a memorable day! My ER tag at TTSH on 4/8/26!
On 1/8 night I suddenly had a flood of floaters overwhelming me. Never seen so much funny looking stuff in front of me. lol π Slept over and the next day , the eye sight kind of deteriorated by about 20% with more blurry vision!
Came 4/8 Tuesday, we were at car service checking out on the car boot which was not able to open of late. Was having a hearty $3 breaky at the showroom! The Great Value meal!
While waiting for the car service consult, I decided to check the Health apps on my last eye check. It was last June! Further scrolling I found the icon for eye appointment schedule!Eureka! So many time slots available! So once we found out that our car had to be sent in to determine which part needed to be replaced , we had no choice but to reschedule the workshop date.
I decided to just pick my eye check timing at 10:40am! Thinking that it would be finished by 11:15 am to meet my sister for lunch then.
Little did I realise that it would be a day of remembrance for me! 3 shocks and I had to go to the A& E!
Shock#1: In the eye scan room? The nurse told me she couldn’t proceed as I had this sudden floaters. She referred me to consult doc first! I jokingly told her “ Aiyo, I shd not have mentioned about my floaters! Then I could just do the simple eye check right?”
SHock #2 : The Doc referred me to the A&E at any hospital! I begged her not to sent me there! I have never been to the A& E as a patient myself! The plea was rejected. Gosh. Rejection #2!
SHock # 3: At the eye specialist? Was told that I need to go for this laser asap! So serious! Another bargaining with the doc “ can I delay? Must do it today? NOw????” Rejection # 3! π
The Timeline of events!
4/8/26
9:40am - sudden impulse booking for poly eye scan - kena referred to doc due to the sudden onset of floaters 3 days ago on Sat
10am- Poly doc Gwen referred me to A&E to be seen by eye specialist citing no equipment at clinic etc and best get eye checked due to sudden and not gradual built up of floaters! She wrote “STAT”
10:30 Came to TTsh. Paid $160 for this A&E. Pretty efficient and got the Q at eye centre after I bargained with the nurse that it was normal for my BP to be high due to white coat syndrome! The first was 171. Too high. Gave me
Another chance to cool down. Second reading went down to 160! So I told ber my normal was always 120! Finally she released me to the eye dept direct!
12:45 eye doc Clarence recommended to do a laser for the L eye to seal the retina scar to prevent retina tear in future. Got some blood leaks which caused the blur vision.
Cataract no issue for now. Got to live with floaters!
1:15 start laser. About 600 plus shoots! Ended 1:45 ( But halfway through he changed the laser machine as some blood was blocking the laser shoots :( ) oops!
MAny types of eye lasers. But mine was called “Laser Retina Pexi”. Using a laser Pascal machine
1:50 - go home !
Doc suggested no physical activity for 2-3 weeks! Sleep with a few pillows upright to prevent the blood flow.
What an eventful day!
But whole process was quite efficiently done. All within 4 hours!
Reflections and Thanksgiving :-
1. Thank God for the timing at car workshop for me to slot in my sys check. Initially I wanted to wait till end of the month when I was scheduled for my blood test.
2. REjections? Can be a blessing in disguise? And telling the truth is still important! lol. Commandment # 9! One must not lie! So thanks to the nurse for rejecting my simple eye scan. π great Protocal! So I had to be “floated” to the doc instead.
3. Thankful to the poly doc’s encouragement and assurances! She kept telling me blessing in disguise to get the eye check this morning. Better to get it rectified if any issue. Well well! Was begging her not to send me to A&E! Alamak! She wrote “STAT” She told me unless she issued this referral, I can only get the appointment months later. STaT ! STAT! STAT!!!
4. THankful to the eye doc. Very decisive doc. But I think still under training. Cos my results had be be read by another Senoir doc who came to check on me. Before “floating” me to the Laser room. Supposed to be 20min process. But took me a little longer cos he had to switched to another laser mahine half way through:(
5. Thankful whatever for this whole experience. Think the laser procedure is not cheap. But well. What to do? Just sign and told them deduct whatever from my medisave and medishield after their “means testing”! After all I already paid in cash foe the A&E service. This laser part can be deducted from my medisave:(But Cash Only! CAsh!!!!at the ER! Guess No cash no emergency service? HMM)
But generally I was very impressed by our health care service on this day! Decided to send in the compliments in the apps as an appreciation to all the various depts. ( Will await the invoice to be billed. Lol)
6. Fear. Who has no fear? My brain was fogged at the poly! NOt just my eyes!! Never knew how serious this was! floaters only mah? lol. So I floated in fear for just under 4 hours! Prayed inside after asking the doc “ laser! Will I go blind!?” lol. Outside the laser room? Prayed harder! Pls shoot accurately ! I need my precious sight! π Faith. There isnt such a thing as blind faith. lol. I had to trust the doc Clarence as I put my head on the board! π I had to be still! “Be still and know that he is the doc” an diff psalm 46! Lol π Aim properly doc ! π
So there goes my personal lesson on this fateful day. 4th August 2026! Instead of repairing the jammed back car
Boot! I got the BACK of my eye repaired instead! What a morning! Retina or Retina!
7. Got up this morning ! Still can SEE!!! THANKFUL! lol!
I want to see ! Yes see!! Besides believing in a Creative God who has made all things wonderful around me! lol. I may. Not see GOD? But He is definitely real. HIs love for me is real. Dunno why I suddenly decided to open the health apps. But I did. The many empty eye slots available caused me proceed with the appt just within minutes of tapping. Had there been no slots? I would have waited till end of August. lol
Thankful. Amazing Grace. ! HOw sweet the sound …
I once once blind ( perhaps almost if my retina tears really) lol…. But now I see,…
Nothing but the Grace of the Lord!
And hey! No lunch with my sister? We ended with dinner instead! lol! At Sprouts botanic @7pm! What an ending of an eventful day! π
