21/9/26 : Rainbow @ Sayram Lake
Known in Mongolian as Sayram Nur, which means "the lake on the mountain ridge". Its ancient name is Jinghai.
Formed 70 million years ago by crustal fault‑sinking during the Himalayan orogeny, it is a fault‑trough lake.
It is known as "the Last Tear of the Atlantic Ocean". This is because warm‑wet air currents from the Atlantic travel eastward across Eurasia. When they reach the Tianshan Mountains, they are blocked by the high mountain ranges. The water vapour condenses here into rain and snow.
Sayram Lake is a closed endorheic lake with no outflow. It is fed only by rainfall and glacial melt‑water.
1. The lake surface sits at an 2073m
2. The total scenic‑area covers 1314 square kilometers, symbolizing "for a lifetime".
3. Maximum water depth: 92 meters. The ring‑lake highway stretches 90 kilometers. Both figures contain the number 90, representing "lasting forever".
4. Boasting water transparency up to 12 meters, it is an alpine brackish cold‑water lake.
