Didn’t expect SQ to have delays @Changi. But glad we stopover for a nite in Chengdu. This time strolled the Tian Fu Square and saw the Mao statue up close.
The domestic terminal is huge. Need to factor longer time to Walk to gate after customs. Almost 20-25min.
Witnessed the patience of the airport staff handling a Man causing a ruckus @ the airport gate . Security came so much later. Hmm.
So here in Urumuqi on Day2
1. Xinjiang population 20mio plus. ( smaller than Chengdu or Chongqing) Urumqi only 2mio. Home to 13 plus of their minority tribes of 56.
2. Cotton fields , maize, white and black seeds melons, grapes.. camels, horses, sheep cows…
3. The first leg of the journey was through the Gurban Desert ( Karamay). Hot. So got to wear sand socks provided by the driver Ren Jie ! GOod idea! Cos the sand too smooth and fine for the shoes!
4. Arrived at Burqin , a city of only 80k with nice European style architecture buildings. Russian influence. Performance at the Kanas Bridge at 8:30pm was a daily affair. Late entertainment due to sun setting late at 9ish.
That is our Day 2 longest ride. To avoid this 7 hour journey, need to fly from Urumqi to Alatay (1 hour ) and back track Heny- kanas-Burqin instead.
