20190703-Rawa Revisited and a first Nite Snorkel

3/7/19- Rawa Revisted after 30 years!
Still a nice boutique island to getaway!

Not too bad for just about 2 hours road trip from Spore to Mersing.  Then a 25 minute speedboat from Mersing to Rawa Island.  Very tide dependent, so the departure times which are twice a day changes over the different months.

We stayed at the Beach resorts.  So convenient to just walk to the clear waters!

Took this change of tide photos on our last day on the island . So Cool!

KAYAKING!

The Lord was so good to us! When we decided to walk up the hill back to our rooms after visiting the Scuba Centre to enquire our Night Snorkel, a little Buggy came along!  So kindly,we decided not to walk but hitch a ride! It was a fun & memorable ride! Save our energy walking back!

Managed to take a stroll up to the hill top the next morning to have a good aerial view of the South China Sea!

The other end of the island - to watch sunrise

And this was sunsetting

After returning from Rawa this time, I managed to scour through my past RAWA album in 1988 & 1989.  Gosh! 30 years had flown past by in a twinkle of my eye! What changed?
  • Well, the rooms and restaurant had been renovated. With that the increase in price :)
  • Time travel to this island has been slashed down by a great deal - from catamaran to speedboat!

But the beach, the white sands and the pristine crystal clear clear remained fairly unchanged to date...ummm after 30 years !

Been wanting John to come to Rawa to experience the clear waters and beach....So after all these years, thanks to our niece from UK visiting us this trip, we managed to arrange for this 2N3D last minute getaway! YEAH!

Reflections of RAWA 3:

For me, having been on this island for the 3rd time in 30 years, one of the highlights was the $45 night snorkeling experience.  My first. Just me and Charlotte niece & our guide.  The experience was an eye opener with us holding unto a small but power torch.  Unfortunately we did not manage to get to see many norcturnal sea creatures like squids etc.  The fish - many were sleeping.  Manage to observe the anemones in a different light.  But the day snorkeling was so different as one can see so many fish around.

As I was swimming and snorkeling in the dark of the sea, I couldn't help but recall the recent Thai Cave rescues by those navy seals!  I cannot imagine how they manage to navigate the narrow recesses in those caves underwater!

For me in the open dark sea with no degree goggles was a real challenge. LOL.

Also, the next day, parts of my neck and legs were bitten by sea lice.
Itchy.  But guess, worth the experience after all!
